That’s the considered view of Scotland on Sunday who say:
Drug education experts believe the downturn and the rise in youth unemployment is fuelling the use of drugs by young people.
But they quote someone from Crew 2000 as saying:
“We were expecting a rise [in drug use] because of the recession, but it seems that rather than more people using, it’s a case of people who are already using are now taking more.”
If we look back at the Health Behaviours survey recently published by the World Health Organisation that suggests that young people’s drug use in Scotland, while at the higher end of the spectrum, isn’t quite at the point which makes the country the new drug capital of Europe – at least as far as young people go.
